Brenda Hiatt (nee Brenda L. Hiatt) was born and raised in the Florida Panhandle, and is a native Floridian. She attended Florida State University and received her Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Florida. In 1979 she started her own Business Consultancy firm, which provided services to clients throughout the Panhandle, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Miami, Atlanta, Nashville and Memphis. While offering services to her clients in all types of industries that are recognized as leaders in their respective fields by industry associations, she also began writing short stories about small town people with strong character traits. She sold her first short story to "Texas Monthly" magazine in 1985.

The Center for Excellence in Writing assisted her in finding an agent who bought several of the stories she submitted. Her first novel "A Trail of Memories" was released in 1996 by Penguin Books.
